THE JOHN STEEL SINGERS Announce Their Own Record Label To Release Third Album: Midnight At The Plutonium + Share Single ‘Weekend Lover’

Screen Shot 2015-08-28 at 12.51.39 pm

The John Steel Singers are back with a new single called ‘Weekend Lover’, spun last night by Dom Alessio on triple j’s Home & Hosed. It’s a new direction in sound for the beloved Brisbane band who for the past 2 years have been exploring more 70’s funk & soul inspired records, melding them with their signature sonic personality to form a new post yacht hybrid.

The triple j Unearthed J Award winners are no strangers to developing their sound. 2010 saw the release of Tangalooma which was produced by Robert Forster, and in 2013 they released a more psychedelic self-produced record called Everything’s A Thread. The latter was produced in a make-shift studio in guitarist Luke McDonald’s parents’ house on the Sunshine Coast. This is where they cut their teeth on building a studio and eventually built a real one in Kelvin Grove, Brisbane called The Plutonium. Many acts have come through its doors so far, including Cloud Control and Blank Realm, but the album that quite literally has made the studio it’s home is Midnight At The Plutonium, the John Steel Singers’ forthcoming 3rd record.

If a studio and an album announce wasn’t enough, the band are excited to also announce the launch of Plutonium Records which will be releasing their new album in conjunction with Create Control. Their own label is yet another exciting new venture for the band which could see the release of other new talented acts as time goes on.

But it’s in their studio, The Plutonium, where for the past 8 months the band has been preparing something new and different. ‘Weekend Lover’ is the first taste and with its classy sax solo, whirly synths, off-beat guitar clicks and catchy as hell falsetto chorus, it’s something that will stick in your head for days.

In her new video for ‘Close Up’, Peaches enters the brazen world of Mexican wrestling with her musical collaborator turned coach Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon. Peaches takes on a string of female wrestlers and Luchadores, including Cassandro and Dirty Sanchez. The outrageous video was filmed in Los Angeles and was directed by Vice Cooler, Peaches’ frequent video collaborator and co-producer of her new album Rub’ out September 25 on Kartel Music / Rocket Distribution.

Peaches, who conceived the video concept explained her inspiration, “I’m fascinated by Lucha VaVOOM, the work they do, and by classic bro movies like Rocky; the relationships between coach and student and between men and their sports. For ‘Close Up’, I wanted to combine the two, adding some little twists.”

‘Close Up’ features Kim Gordon on the hook. Gordon recently discussed the collaboration with Marc Maron on his WTF podcast saying it was “a minimal hip hop track, and I just put something down and then Peaches built a rap around it.”

It is with sadness that after six years together, one of Melbourne’s finest live rock bands, Loon Lake announce that they will “call it a day”. The news comes after the band released a statement to their fans via social media.

“There is no fall out, no drama here, It’s just over and it was fun while it lasted. We are very, very proud of what we have achieved over the last 6 years, to be honest, we never really set out to achieve anything except have a bit of fun, but even in our wildest dreams, we couldn’t imagine it would be this fun.

“Loon Lake isn’t breaking up, we are just winding up. We are all still best mates and that wont change. Our reasons are simply that we feel like we may have run our course, we probably won’t ever be much more than we are and with everyone doing different things, living in different places, it’s pretty hard to keep it going. ”

Read the band’s full statement HERE.

Ironically, Loon Lake have been going about recording and producing an album, which they feel are their strongest collection of tracks in years. The second single from these sessions ‘Just Now‘ is still saturating the triple j airwaves.

As an added surprise and a way of thanking the fans they love, those who pre-buy tickets to the tour will receive a sneaky download of the album late September.

Loon Lake will play their last shows this October with a national tour, hitting Jack Rabbit Slims in Perth on October 9, UniBar in Adelaide on Oct 10, The Cambridge in Newcastle on October 30, Newtown Social Club in Sydney on October 31, The Brightside in Brisbane on November 6 and Sol Bar on the Sunshine Coast on November 7, Their last show will take place in their hometown of Melbourne at the Corner Hotel on November 14. STALKHER Soundtrack Out Now + Video Premiered By The Music

STALKHER_CoverArt

The official soundtrack to the Australian motion picture starring John Jarratt (Wolf Creek 1 & 2) StalkHer is released, and to mark the occasion The Music have exclusively premiered the soundtrack’s second official single and the film’s title track, performed Maddy & Memphis Kelly – watch it HERE.

Daughters of the film’s lead actress and co-director Kaarin Fairfax and musical legend Paul Kelly, Memphis & Maddy Kelly, Wishful, are fresh from a European tour supporting CW Stoneking, the talented siblings perform the sultry dive-bar-esque kinda number in a video that conjures up the vibe of Dame Shirley Bassey singing the James Bond Goldfinger theme song in The Shining’s Overlook Hotel.

Iconic Australian actor John Jarratt’s latest celluloid release not only cements his place as one of our country’s leading men (just ask Tarantino!) but also reveals his triple threat status – actor, director, singer! Killer in Me is the first single release from the monster soundtrack to Jarratt’s upcoming film and directorial debut, StalkHer. Having clocked up over 100,000 views on YouTube in less than two months, the track boasts all the hallmarks of top-notch country pop/rock and, like the film, the song is dark yet playful. Jarratt brings all his menacing glory to the fore and minces it with a good dose of grit, then washes it down with a hint of irony. Jarratt’s StalkHer co-star, and three-time AFI nominee, Kaarin Fairfax is on backing vocals, with renowned Australian blues musician Smokin’ Sam on harmonica. Watch it HERE.

The remainder of the StalkHer soundtrack includes a splay of internationally renowned artists and songs in an eclectic mix, with a common theme of raw primal energy, desire, and a blatant need for loving and relief – again, just like the film!

When we say eclectic we mean it – from classical (Mozart) to glam rock (Skyhooks), from indie (The Go-Betweens) to pub rock (The Angels), from angelic songstress (Sarah Blasko) to Australia’s Prince of Darkness (Nick Cave). There’s even a dose of dirty trance, courtesy of Mark J D’Angelo, Tony Ianiro & Craig Jansson of The Backlot Studios.

Peaches new album Rub announced for September 25

Screen Shot 2015-08-05 at 2.31.20 pm

After a charged performance at Sydney Opera House last May for VIVID Live Festival, Peaches has announced Rub, her first album of new material in six years to be released on September 25 via Kartel Music Group / Rocket Distribution.

The album is her most adventurous, audacious musical statement yet. It continues on the bold, sexually progressive path she forged 15 years ago that’s opened the door for countless others to follow. Rub was recorded over the course of 2014 in Peaches’ LA garage studio collaborating with her longtime friend Vice Cooler.

“After six years, I was excited about my lyrics again, about what Peaches was,” she explains. “I felt more comfortable living out any idea I wanted to try. We spent ten hours a day making beats, and whatever stuck, I would write on and develop. The only agenda was to make the best album we could.”

Peaches will once again direct and curate videos for each song on the album. You can watch Peaches’ self-directed video for the gorgeous, throbbing ‘Light In Places’ which was written for and stars UK performance artist/aerialist Empress Stah, and her pioneering laser butt plug show. Watch HERE. ‘Light In Places’ is the first official single form Rub, out now.
