THE POP GROUP PREMIERE NEW SINGLE & VIDEO ‘MAD TRUTH’

Post-punk provocateurs The Pop Group have collaborated with acclaimed Italian director and actress Asia Argento on the video of their first single Mad Truth from their forthcoming new album,  Citizen Zombie

Mad Truth is available as an instant download with pre-orders of the new album Citizen Zombie through iTunes.
 
The single is taken from the 11-track album, produced by the multi Grammy and Academy award winning producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence & The Machine, Coldplay, Bloc Party, Bruno Mars), a long-time fan of the band. It’s released in Australia through Freaks R Us / Rocket on Friday 27 February. 
 
The album, Citizen Zombie, features original members Mark Stewart (lyrics / vocals), Dan Catsis (bass), Gareth Sager (guitar) and Bruce Smith (drums).

THE POP GROUP TO RELEASE FIRST STUDIO ALBUM IN 35 YEARS

Post punk provocateurs THE POP GROUP have announced details of their first album in 35 years. Citizen Zombie will be released through Freaks R Us on Friday 27 February, produced by the much-acclaimed Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence & The Machine, Coldplay, Bloc Party, Bruno Mars), a long-time fan of the band.

Released exclusively today via NME, watch a special behind-the-scenes video of The Pop Group‘s recording sessions with Paul Epworth. A taster from the album, title track ‘Citizen Zombie’ can be heard HERE.

This year, The Pop Group finally make it to Australia. They play at the Adelaide Festival on March 5, Sydney at The Factory Theatre on March 6 and Melbourne at The Corner Hotel on March 7, all tickets on sale now.

The Pop Group paved the way for bands like Massive Attack, Nine Inch Nails’ larger-than-life soundscapes and LCD Soundsystem to the more contemporary bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Liars.  Among The Pop Group‘s biggest fans is none other than Nick Cave, who spoke about his admiration for them the first time he saw them live, “It’s one of those moments that you just feel the cogs of your mind will shift and your life is going to irreversibly change.” Watch the full clip HERE.

SALLY SELTMANN UNVEILS NEW SINGLE ‘WE ARE THE MUSIC’

SALLY SELTMANN has unveiled her brand new single, ‘We Are The Music’. Myf Warhust yesterday gave the single its Australian radio debut on Double J, and now the track has been exclusively shared online via Idolator‘We Are The Music’ will be officially released on January 20 via Sally’s own independent label, Three Of Hearts, and is available to pre-order now via iTunes.

The track is her first new material since 2014’s acclaimed LP, Hey Daydreamer, and her first release since re-locating from Sydney to Los Angeles in early 2014.  ’We Are The Music’ has a decidedly pop feel, energetic and upbeat, sure to bring sunshine. Created in various studios in the USA and Canada, ‘We Are The Music’ finds Sally collaborating with husband Darren (Avalanches) and Canadian musicians Jon Lawless (Swim Good) and Aaron Mohr.

Of the origins of the new song, Sally said, “Jon [Lawless] contacted me and asked if I’d like to do something with an instrumental track he was working on. I loved the track so much! I cut up sections, and moved things around a bit, wrote lyrics and melody over the top, and then Darren and I worked on it some more.”

Following on from ‘We Are The Music’, Sally will be reissuing her entire back catalogue on the Three Of Hearts label, including the 2010 acclaimed album Heart That’s Pounding, as well as all of the New Buffalo albums.

THE CLEAN ADD TO MELBOURNE & BRISBANE LINEUPS

Forebearers of the Dunedin sound, THE CLEAN return to Australia in just under two weeks to perform at MONA FOMA and Sydney Festival, plus heading dates in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth.

They’ve just announced that wild synth punksters Ausmuteants as openers, plus Twerps on DJ-ing hi-jinks between bands, will be joining the already announced and very excellent Lower Plenty for an unstoppable lineup in Melbourne at The Corner on Thursday, January 22.

At Brisbane’s The Brightside on Australia Day Eve, the lineup as been extended to make a mini-festival including the psychedelic pop lord Ariel Pink, the soulful electronic tunes of How To Dress Well, electro-wizard Dan Deacon and local up-and-comers TincturePrimitive Motion, and Thigh Master.

SALLY SELTMANN ANNOUNCES NEW LABEL & SINGLE

Acclaimed singer/songwriter SALLY SELTMANN has started 2015 with the launch of her very own record label, Three Of Hearts, and the news of her new single to be released via the label on January 20. 

We Are The Music‘ is the energetic and upbeat new single and is available to pre-order now via iTunes. The song finds her collaborating with husband Darren Seltmann, and Canadian musicians Jon Lawless (Swim Good) and Aaron Mohr. Created in various studios across the USA and Canada, ‘We Are The Music‘ is the first new music from Sally since the release of her fourth full-length album, Hey Daydreamer, in February 2014.

Of the origins of the new song, Sally says, “Jon [Lawless] contacted me and asked if I’d like to do something with an instrumental track he was working on. I loved the track so much! I cut up sections, and moved things around a bit, wrote lyrics and melody over the top, and then Darren and I worked on it some more.”

 
The result is an infectious, uplifting pop song that celebrates life and music, and the electricity and spark created by two people “moving together, like lovers on a first date.”

“It’s where my head’s at right now” says Sally. “I just want to make music that makes people happy.”

DZ DEATHRAYS – 3 SHOWS SOLD OUT, 4 NEW SHOWS ADDED

Still with a trail of destruction behind after the Lorne/Byron/Marion Bay Falls Festival dates, DZ DEATHRAYS have today announced that 3 shows on their Get Rich or Drunk Tryin’ tour next month with Bass Drum Of Death and Hockey Dad have sold out – 2x at Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club (Feb 27 & 28) plus Brisbane’s Brightside on March 13.

To keep up with demand, the Brisbane thrashers have added 2 more shows for Melbourne at the Northcote Social Club – on Thursday 26 February a third and final 18+ show, and for the Under 18s a special daytime show on Saturday 28 February.

For Brisbane, the band have added an Under 18s daytime show on Sunday 15 March at Music Industry College and a second Over 18 show at the Brightside on the same day. Hockey Dad will not be appearing at these new Brisbane shows, instead support will come from Bass Drum of Death and The Ron Swansons.
