After a year in Germany, Boulet is back with his third LP, GUBBA.
The Vine has shared a video of Jonathan Boulet talking to himself to introduce you to GUBBA.
After a UK/EU tour and performances at SXSW last year, Boulet relocated from Sydney to Germany, sans band and sans plan. His “Berlin Era” was not crack-fuelled like so many others’. Rather, the Australian expat successfully managed to immolate past notions of his music amidst the right-proper snowstorms of a European winter. Without crack.
Boulet’s debut self-titled album released in 2009 and 2012’s We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, Start The Heart (both on Modular) were critically praised and saw him grace the stage with the likes of Mumford & Sons, Tame Impala, Kate Nash, Tom Vek and Kindness. He also has played at every festival known to music lovers in Australia from Splendour to Vivid to Falls to Homebake.
As premiered on triple j’s Home & Hosed, ‘Hold It Down’ is the very first taste of GUBBA. It’s a grimier, ballsier more worldly Boulet.
GUBBA is entirely self-produced and bludgeons like a doom record sped up to garage-punk tempos.
GUBBA is faster, heavier and more direct than its predecessors.
GUBBA is pop music with a scummy outer layer.
GUBBA is not angry but likes to have fun. Who the f*ck is GUBBA?
